The Brain’s Path of Learning

by Titas Mukherjee

At four, the roads in the mind of a child begin to engrave memories. At five, they are dressed in fabrics of different colors, handed books that weigh the knowledge of the ABC’s and counting, then run along the path of the world’s modern-day education. Children come home with broadened knowledge, voices that itch to utter the “did you know” inquiries about what they have learned, or to display the quavery script of their newly taught writing. However, their walk along the road becomes a run, that run becomes a competition, that competition becomes a source of loss; loss of energy, motivation, and the desire to learn.

How Does School Contribute to Loss?

Within walls of information that are pushed into the growing minds of the youngest to oldest students, their bodies and health suffer both physiologically, and physically. They are engulfed within a seven or eight-hour rotation in which they are faced with the expectations and normalized pressure to stay on top of classwork, complete every homework assignment thrown their way, and engage within extracurriculars (sports, theater, clubs). Students face no time for themselves, and a break from the trapped system is a path down self-inflict and shame thrown upon themselves. Additionally, not all students feign interest within the textbooks of randomly assorted letters, or brain-eating math formulas. In the United States, ¾ of high schoolers exhibit negative attitudes towards school, and 61% report being stressed on a daily basis. The dedication students once held true to themselves and the commitment they would lather in has begun to dissipate. Schools have been redrawn from the institution of privilege everyone deserves, to the modern world root of unhappiness.

Brain Benefits: SimplySkilled’s Support

Drafting the target around education, SimplySkilled offers a helping hand in reverting this degrading loss into energized motivation. At SimplySkilled, we work to develop a society in which all children earn a form of education. In our dictionary, “thriving” is the word we work by, and as the team thrives with the work we create, we hope that students will too. The SimplySkilled academic workbooks provide information that is carefully crafted by pace, allowing for students to work within their comfort and level. More than 500 teacher trainees in the Provincial Teacher Training College utilize them and have reported drastic reports of the benefits and encouragement it provides.

SimplySkilled blogs is a student’s go-to source for empowerment and awareness. Every month, blogs are published on the website, each one discussing different matters, their impact, and how it is dealt with. Additionally, they outline education on different students and what can be done to ensure that every student who finds their noses within textbooks, and their hands occupied with a pencil, indulges within their academics with rationale and encouragement.

SimplySkilled continues to grow, with the team, and with the content. Our motive is to avoid the irrational feelings of academic hopelessness and discouragement, and instead to promote high-spirited, reflective, and beneficial learning. Education is the basis for success, not a tool to carve deprivation within students.
