Education: Where is Authenticity?

by Titas Mukherjee

When a child begins to recite the mere letters of the alphabet, they are unknowingly thrust into the madness of what society calls “success”; This success is obsessed with nothing but performance, exposing the true light upon modern education. A light that notes that the new system of learning lacks the authenticity of character, a tool central to both the physical and mental well-being of one. Modern education demands a detour; social and emotional learning need to be paved into the education system, making use of precious human skills and character.

What Exactly is Social and Emotional Learning?

Social and Emotional Learning, a crucial yet unacknowledged aspect of the education system. The aim of SEL is to promote/strengthen both the social and emotional skills of students, to be in service of communication, learning, maintaining relationships and one’s health. An SEL framework includes the key components of focus attention, critical inquiry, emotion management, all to aid in the balance of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive abilities. Active learning stems from the SEL program, in which learning skills are generalized, allowing every student to practice the necessary skills (positive behavior, and thinking) to walk along the path of proper success.

What Change can Come?

Normally, human beings are social, everyone has an innate desire to build personal relationships with others. Social exposure/bonds are a normal and needed part of human life, such crucial bonds drawn into one’s early life are what allow people to coexist with others, especially in groups.

Including a Social and Emotional Learning program, allows humans to properly engage within their education. NAEYC, a nonprofit working for childhood education, notes how developing one’s emotional and social intelligence aids them in managing their responses, sentiment, and personal spirit. A person who lacks the colors of those is more likely to struggle to earn the education they rightfully deserve.

A curriculum that chooses to ignore the mental and emotional health of their students’ are setting themself down a road of failure and misery, specifically on the shoulders of the students’. Such a method will work against everyone, and prevent students’ from reaching the academic goals they are constantly pressured to obtain. Modern education needs to implement the SEL initiative, and doing so is a guaranteed trackway to proper success, and an additional sense of confidence for students.

The SEL Road SimplySkilled can Bring

SimplySkilled works to improve education, through the extensive and informational blogs provided, scholastic workbooks, and active awareness. SimplySkilled works everyday towards the road of newly furnished education, one that includes the pivotal component of SEL.

Workbooks not only offer the technical terms of education, but will also work to concentrate on health and environment. They can include an insight on what exactly SEL is, the benefits, and how it can be utilized in the daily educational lifestyle.

Education is a construction of academic, social, and emotional learning. Without one, the others are means of harm to students. Success is not outlined by achievement, it is outlined by authenticity and a way to freely/truly express one’s character.
